Maintaining Your Appliance
It is important to take proper care of your fridge or freezer so that you keep them functioning properly for years to come. This guide will help you keep your fridge or freezer fresh, clean and working at its best for longer.
Before proceeding with the recommendations provided hereunder, we encourage you to read carefully the user manual provided with your appliance.
Guide to using your fridge or freezer for the first time:
When we deliver your brand-new fridge or freezer, kindly follow the following set up instructions. Before plugging your fridge/freezer in and turning it on for the first time, you can do some things to get the most out of it and extend its lifespan.
- Let it stand:
The first thing to keep in mind is how long you need to ‘let it stand’. Since fridges and freezers contain fluids/gasses which are used to cool the compartments, and due to the fact that your appliance gets moved around during transit, it is best to allow everything to settle before plugging it in so that the cooling system can adjust and work effectively.
If your fridge or freezer was transported upright, give it at least one hour prior to plugging it in. Meanwhile, if your fridge or freezer was transported on its side, ensure that it is turned the right way up and leave it stand for a minimum period of four hours prior to plugging it in.
- Quick Clean:
Due to the fact that you will be storing food in the fridge or freezer, we always recommend that you clean it before starting to make use of it. A quick wipe down with warm water and washing up liquid in each cavity will be enough. Kindly ensure that it is completely dry prior to putting the compartments back in.
- Choose the right position:
It is important to ensure that your fridge or freezer is positioned in such a manner that there is enough space for air to freely flow around it. We recommend that you maintain a minimum space of 5 cm from the walls on both sides of your fridge freezer. Therefore, we suggest that you do not push your appliance all the way up against the wall, and that you place it in a central position in the designated space.
We recommend that the appliance be kept in a room having an ambient temperature ranging between 16 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius for it to function correctly.
- Turn it on:
All that is left to do at this stage is to plug it in. It will take a few hours to get down to the right temperature when it first turns on. Kindly ensure that you start storing food in the fridge or freezer once your appliance reaches the correct temperature. We recommend that you allow a period of approximately 6 hours after it has been switched on before storing food therein.
What temperature should your fridge or freezer be?
Winter:
Your fridge temperature should be set at 4 degrees Celsius, while your freezer temperature should be set at -17 degrees Celsius.
Summer:
Your fridge temperature should be set at 4 degrees Celsius, while your freezer temperature should be set at -19 degrees Celsius.
Going abroad?
Activate vacation mode before leaving your house.
Cleaning your fridge freezer:
We recommend that you clean your fridge/freezer every now and again. To clean your fridge or freezer, you may start off by removing the drawers and shelves, and placing them in warm soapy water. Proceed to scrub the drawers and shelves with a soft sponge until they are clean, and then rinse thoroughly with cold water and allow them to dry naturally before placing them back in your appliance. While your drawers and shelves are drying, proceed to spray the walls and corners of your fridge/freezer with antibacterial cleaning spray and wipe down all surfaces and seals. Then, once it is nice and clean, proceed to dry it with a cloth or towel to remove any residue.
Kindly ensure that you turn off your fridge/freezer when conducting the above cleaning practices. Furthermore, we encourage you to wear protective apparel when cleaning your appliance and to ensure your own safety and the safety of those around you at all times.
Do not use thinner, car detergent, clorox, etherol oil, abrasive cleaners or organic solvent for cleaning as they may damage the surface of the appliance and may cause fire.
Make sure you close the door of your fridge:
If you leave the door accidentally a jar or your discovered that the food stuffs inside the fridge have defrosted, kindly switch off the electricity from the main supply and then switch it back on. The temperature should gradually recover to the correct temperature within 24 hours. This is also suggested in the case of lightning, sudden loss of power, and incorrect mains.
Cleaning the drain points in your fridge:
Ensure that your drain points are clear. The drain is for excess water to run off so it does not fall on your shelves or at the bottom of your fridge collecting bacteria.
Cleaning important areas to get the most out of our fridge:
Pull out your fridge from the wall so you may access the back. Clean underneath the fridge and at the back of the condenser coil using your vacuum cleaner so as to reduce the risk of fire. Remove the panel and clean the back of the compressor, especially if you have pets. Kindly do so gently so as to ensure that the appliance is not damaged in the process.
When and how to defrost your appliance:
If you have frost in your fridge or a build-up of ice in your freezer, it will need to be defrosted. Ice build-up in your fridge and freezer makes the appliance less efficient and makes it more difficult to insert and remove things.
To defrost your appliance, kindly follow the applicable instructions outlined below:

If you require any further information or demonstrations on how to maintain and use your fridge or freezer, we kindly ask you to contact us or visit any one of our retail outlets so that our trained representatives may assist you further.

Cleaning the detergent drawer:
We recommend that you regularly clean the detergent and softener drawer since this may get clogged up with old liquids. Failure to regularly clean this drawer may lead to unpleasant odours, unreliable washing results, and in certain instances, even blockages.
To clean the detergent and softener drawer, first take out the drawer so you may reach all the edges and corners. Then, you may proceed to clean it by using hot water, soap and a brush. This prevents the formation of mould, limescale and bacteria/germs. We also recommend that you soak the drawer for half an hour in hot water and to clean hard-to-reach areas using a toothbrush.

Cleaning the drain pump filter:
Some washing machines have filters which capture fluff, coins or anything else. We recommend that you clean it well to ensure that your washing machine keeps on working correctly and to prevent blockages from forming. We recommend that you clean the drain pump every 6 weeks.
Applicable to Samsung Washing Machines - for a step-by-step guideline on how to clean the pump filter, kindly visit https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/home-appliances/how-do-i-clean-the-debris-filter-in-my-front-loading-samsung-washing-machine/

Cleaning the seals:
It is very important to keep the seals of your washing machine clean, since it is a component where bacteria may form. The process to clean the seals is as follows:
- Open the washer door and remove any clothing items from the washer.
- Inspect the seal between the door opening and the basket for stains.
- Wipe the seal with a soft brush, kitchen towel or damp cloth. When you are using a detergent, dilute with warm tap water before applying it to, and cleaning, the seal. We suggest that you make use of a non-abrasive detergent. Alternatively, you may use white vinegar.
- Pull back the seal to inspect all areas under the seal and to check for any foreign objects.
- After cleaning the seal area, wipe down the area thoroughly with a dry cloth and leave it to dry.
We kindly advise you to wear rubber gloves when conducting the cleaning recommendations provided above and to refer to the bleach manufacturer’s instructions for proper use. To clean the seal, you may use white vinegar and a cloth, brush or towel.
Using the right amount of detergent:
We recommend that you use an adequate amount of detergent in accordance with the cycle you have chosen. Apart from being a waste of money, the use of an excessive amount of detergent will leave residues of soap in the drawer, which in the long run may cause the proliferation of bacteria and mould.
Airing out the washing machine:
Leaving damp clothes in the drum for long periods of time increases moisture and mould build-up. Moisture can result in damp and bad odours. Make sure to remove damp clothes from the drum immediately and leave the main door and detergent drawer open for fifteen to twenty minutes after the wash has finished to let air to circulate.
Do not overload the washing machine:
Overloading the washing machine could throw the machine off balance and damage it. If you have too many items to wash, simply divide them into multiple piles to clean separately. We also remind you that even loading too little can cause problems, and therefore we suggest that you balance your laundry according to the ability and capacity of your machine.
For guidance on your Samsung washing machine - kindly visit the ‘Standard Cycles’ dropdown in the link https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/home-appliances/what-wash-cycle-should-i-use-for-my-samsung-washing-machine/

Cleaning the water inlet filters:
Washing machines tap into your home’s water supply, drawing both hot and cold water into the machine from the hoses attached at the back. We recommend that you clean these filters regularly or at least twice a year. It is very important to ensure that the supply is clean so that your washing machine runs smoothly and lasts longer.
